Guide for Authors
1. General Information
Jordan Journal of Biological Sciences (JJBS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes original research articles, review articles, and short communications in all areas of biological and life sciences. The journal publishes monthly (12 issues per year) and follows a double-blind peer-review process.
Authors are advised to read the following instructions carefully before submitting a manuscript. Manuscripts not prepared according to these guidelines may be returned for correction or rejected without review.
Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published previously, is not under consideration elsewhere, and has been approved by all authors.
2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted
JJBS accepts the following types of manuscripts:
2.1 Original Research Articles
These should present original experimental or theoretical research results that contribute significantly to biological sciences. The manuscript should be structured with clear sections and supported by adequate experimental data.
2.2 Review Articles
Review articles should provide a comprehensive, critical, and up-to-date overview of a specific topic within the scope of the journal. Reviews must be well-structured, analytical, and supported by relevant references.
2.3 Short Communications
Short communications are brief reports of significant findings that warrant rapid publication. These manuscripts may combine Results and Discussion sections and should be concise.
3. Manuscript Preparation
3.1 Language and Format
- Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English
- File format: MS Word (.doc or .docx)
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font size: 12 pt
- Line spacing: Double-spaced
- Page margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
- Pages should be numbered consecutively
4. Structure of the Manuscript
4.1 Title Page
The title page should include:
- Full title of the manuscript (concise and informative)
- Full names of all authors
- Institutional affiliations of all authors
- Corresponding author’s name, full postal address, telephone number, and email address
4.2 Abstract
- The abstract should not exceed 250 words
- It should briefly describe the objective, methodology, key results, and conclusions
- Avoid references and abbreviations in the abstract
4.3 Keywords
- Provide 3–6 keywords
- Keywords should be relevant for indexing and retrieval
4.4 Introduction
The introduction should:
- Present the background of the study
- Review relevant literature
- Clearly state the objectives of the study
- Avoid detailed results or conclusions
4.5 Materials and Methods
This section should provide sufficient detail to allow the study to be reproduced:
- Experimental design
- Materials used (with manufacturer details)
- Statistical methods
- Ethical approval statements (mandatory for human or animal studies)
Previously published methods should be cited, and only modifications should be described in detail.
4.6 Results
- Present results clearly and concisely
- Use tables and figures where appropriate
- Do not duplicate data in both tables and figures
- Avoid interpretation of results in this section
4.7 Discussion
The discussion should:
- Interpret the results
- Compare findings with previously published studies
- Highlight the significance and limitations of the study
- Avoid repeating results already presented
4.8 Conclusion
- Summarize the main findings
- Emphasize the scientific contribution of the study
- Provide future research directions, if applicable
4.9 Acknowledgements
- Acknowledge funding sources
- Mention individuals or institutions that contributed but do not meet authorship criteria
4.10 Conflict of Interest
Authors must declare any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest. If none exist, include the statement:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
5. Tables and Figures
5.1 Tables
- Tables should be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Table 2, etc.)
- Provide a concise title above each table
- Place tables close to their first citation in the text
5.2 Figures
- Figures should be of high resolution
- Number figures consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.)
- Provide detailed legends below each figure
- Graphs should include clearly labeled axes and units
6. Abbreviations and Units
- Define abbreviations at first mention in the abstract and text
- Use SI units throughout the manuscript
- Gene symbols should be italicized where appropriate
7. References
References should be cited in the text using numerical superscripts or bracketed numbers, listed consecutively in the order of appearance.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of references.
8. Ethical Considerations
8.1 Human and Animal Studies
Manuscripts involving human participants or animals must include:
- Ethical approval from an institutional review board or ethics committee
- Confirmation that informed consent was obtained (where applicable)
8.2 Research Integrity
JJBS strictly prohibits:
- Plagiarism
- Data fabrication or falsification
- Duplicate publication
- Image manipulation
9. Plagiarism Policy
All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software.
- Acceptable similarity index: ≤ 15%
- Manuscripts exceeding this limit will be rejected without review
10. Peer Review Process
- Initial editorial screening
- Double-blind peer review by at least two experts
- Reviewer comments sent to authors for revision
- Final decision by the Editor-in-Chief
The average review time is 3–4 weeks.
11. Article Processing Charges (APC)
- APC: INR 18,000/- per article (up to 4 authors)
- Additional authors: INR 2,000 per author
- No submission fee
- Fast-track review available (optional)

13. Copyright and Licensing
All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).
Authors retain copyright while granting JJBS the right of first publication.
14. Final Note to Authors
Failure to follow these instructions may result in:
- Delay in review
- Return of manuscript for correction
- Rejection without peer review
Authors are strongly encouraged to ensure compliance with these guidelines before submission.
